How the Qibla is worked out
- The direction is the start of the shortest path over the Earth's surface (the great circle) from you to the Kaaba in Makkah (21.4225° N, 39.8262° E), measured clockwise from true north.
- A magnetic compass points to magnetic north, which in the UK today is only a little different from true north. A phone compass can be thrown off far more by nearby metal, so treat it as a guide.
- Every city page shows its own Qibla direction beside its prayer times.
