Oldham Prayer Times

These prayer times are calculated for Oldham, in Greater Manchester, at 53.5405° N, 2.1183° W, in the Europe/London timezone, so they follow the clocks when British Summer Time begins and ends. They are produced by AllPrayerTime's own calculation engine from those coordinates, following the published methodology, and are not copied from another timetable.

Greater Manchester does not share one timetable

Oldham lies about 10 km north-east of Manchester, and the sun reaches its highest point here about half a minute earlier than in Manchester, every day of the year. Across the year each prayer in Oldham is published either at the same minute as in Manchester or one minute earlier — never later — and all seven times match on only four days. Against Bolton, about 21 km to the west, the gap never closes: every prayer in Oldham is one to two minutes earlier than in Bolton, on every day of the year. The differences inside Greater Manchester are small, but they are real, and a timetable from a neighbouring town is not quite the right one for Oldham.

Standard and Hanafi Asr

Both Asr times are listed every day: Standard (Mithl 1) and Hanafi (Mithl 2). In Oldham they are about twenty-seven minutes apart in mid-December and a little over an hour and a quarter apart in mid-June. Neither is presented as the correct one — follow the convention you or your mosque use.

Short summer nights

For part of the summer the usual twilight angles cannot be reached at Oldham's latitude. From the middle of May until the end of July the sun does not sink the 18° below the horizon that Fajr is based on, and from the third week of May to the fourth week of July it does not reach the 17° used for Isha. Around the June solstice, Fajr is published at about 3:39am and Isha at about 10:41pm.

When an angle-based time is unavailable, or would fall outside the approved limit, the one-seventh-of-the-night rule sets the published time. Taking the night as sunset to sunrise, Fajr is not placed earlier than the start of its last seventh, and Isha not later than the end of its first seventh; each prayer is handled on its own. In Oldham the limit applies to Fajr from the last week of February into the second half of October, and to Isha from the first week of March to the first week of October. From late October until late February it is not needed. Each date where it has been applied says so, and shows the angle-based time beside it where one exists. On a few days in mid-May and at the end of July that angle-based Isha falls after midnight, and it is marked as the next day.
