Bolton Prayer Times

These prayer times are calculated for Bolton, in Greater Manchester, at 53.5833° N, 2.4333° W, in the Europe/London timezone, so they follow the clocks when British Summer Time begins and ends. They are produced by AllPrayerTime's own calculation engine from those coordinates, following the published methodology, and are not copied from another timetable.

Close to Manchester, but not the same timetable

Bolton lies about 17 km north-west of Manchester, and the sun reaches its highest point here a little under a minute later than it does in Manchester, every day of the year. That small gap still reaches the published times. Across the year, every prayer in Bolton is either the same minute as in Manchester or up to two minutes later — never earlier — and there is no day on which all seven times match. A Manchester timetable is close in Bolton, but it is always slightly early. Compared with London, Dhuhr here is about nine minutes later all year, and in June Maghrib falls more than twenty minutes later than it does in the capital.

Standard and Hanafi Asr

Both Asr times are listed every day: Standard (Mithl 1) and Hanafi (Mithl 2). In Bolton the two are about twenty-seven minutes apart in mid-December, and a little over an hour and a quarter apart in mid-June. Neither is presented as the correct one — follow the convention you or your mosque use.

Short summer nights

Bolton sits far enough north that the usual twilight angles are out of reach for much of the summer. From the middle of May until the end of July the sun does not sink the 18° below the horizon that Fajr is based on, and from the third week of May to the fourth week of July it does not reach the 17° used for Isha. Around the June solstice, Fajr is published at about 3:40am and Isha at about 10:43pm.

When an angle-based time is unavailable, or would fall outside the approved limit, the one-seventh-of-the-night rule sets the published time. Taking the night as sunset to sunrise, Fajr is not placed earlier than the start of its last seventh, and Isha not later than the end of its first seventh; the two are handled separately. In Bolton the limit applies to Fajr from the last week of February into the second half of October, and to Isha from the first week of March to the first week of October. From November until late February it is not needed. Each date where it has been applied says so, and shows the angle-based time beside it where one exists.
