Coventry Prayer Times

Coventry, West Midlands, UK Europe/London

Calculated times — checked against external reference sources. These times are produced by our own calculation engine using the published methodology. Our validation includes astronomical comparison with the US Naval Observatory and prayer-time comparisons against external reference data. Differences can occur between calculation methods, so please follow your local mosque for congregational prayer.

Which Asr?

Both conventions are calculated and shown. Where a single value is unavoidable we use Asr — Mithl 2, which is a presentation default and not a claim that it is the Coventry standard.

Asr — Mithl 1
16:16
Asr — Mithl 2
17:06

One-seventh-of-the-night rule applied on this date

  • Fajr: the approved one-seventh-of-the-night limit has been applied, so Fajr is shown at 05:11 rather than the 18° angle time of 04:55.
  • Isha: the approved one-seventh-of-the-night limit has been applied, so Isha is shown at 20:46 rather than the 17° angle time of 20:54.

These prayer times are calculated for Coventry, in the West Midlands, at 52.4066° N, 1.5122° W, in the Europe/London timezone, so they follow the clocks when British Summer Time begins and ends. They are produced by AllPrayerTime's own calculation engine from those coordinates, following the published methodology, and are not copied from another timetable.

Standard and Hanafi Asr

Both Asr times are listed every day: Standard (Mithl 1) and Hanafi (Mithl 2). In Coventry the two are a little under half an hour apart around the December solstice, and about an hour and a quarter apart in the days around the June solstice. Neither is presented as the correct one — follow the convention you or your mosque use.

Short summer nights

Even in the Midlands the summer nights are short enough that the usual twilight angles are not reached for part of the year. From the third week of May until late July the sun does not sink the 18° below the horizon that Fajr is based on, and from late May to the third week of July it does not reach the 17° used for Isha. Around the June solstice, Fajr is published a little after 3:40am and Isha at about 10:34pm.

When an angle-based time is unavailable, or would fall outside the approved limit, the one-seventh-of-the-night rule sets the published time. Taking the night as sunset to sunrise, Fajr is not placed earlier than the start of its last seventh, and Isha not later than the end of its first seventh; the two are handled separately. In Coventry the limit applies to Fajr from the start of March into the middle of October, and to Isha from the second week of March to the start of October. From November to February it is not needed. Each date where it has been applied says so, and shows the angle-based time beside it where one exists.

Before you rely on these times

The methodology page explains the angles used, the high-latitude rule, the two small margins added to Dhuhr and Maghrib, how times are rounded to the minute, and how results are checked against independent references.

For congregational prayer, follow your local mosque. Mosques may use different angles, margins or Asr conventions, so jama'ah times — especially Fajr and Isha — can differ from the calculated times on this page. If a time here looks wrong, please report it.

How these times are produced

  • Calculated for Coventry's own coordinates, not estimated from a nearby town.
  • Both Asr times are always shown. Neither is presented as the correct one.
  • Times are rounded to the nearest minute, once, when displayed.
