Manchester Prayer Times

These prayer times are calculated for central Manchester — 53.4809° N, 2.2374° W — in the Europe/London timezone, so they follow the change between GMT and British Summer Time automatically. They are worked out from those coordinates using the site's published methodology, not copied from another timetable.

Standard and Hanafi Asr

Both Asr times are shown every day: Standard (Mithl 1) and Hanafi (Mithl 2). In Manchester the gap between them runs from under half an hour around the December solstice to about an hour and a quarter in late June. Neither is presented as the correct one — follow the convention you or your mosque use.

Short summer nights

At Manchester's latitude summer nights are short. From roughly mid-May to late July the sun does not sink far enough below the horizon for the 18° Fajr angle or the 17° Isha angle to be reached at all. Around the June solstice, Fajr is published at about 3:40am and Isha at about 10:40pm.

When an angle-based time is unavailable, or falls outside the approved limit, the one-seventh-of-the-night rule sets the published time: Fajr is not placed earlier than the start of the last seventh of the night, and Isha not later than the end of the first seventh. In Manchester this limit shapes Fajr and Isha on most days from March into October, and is not needed from November to January. The page notes each date where it has been applied and shows the angle-based time beside it where one exists.
