On the first expected day of Ramadan 2027, Monday 8 February, suhoor (sehri) in London ends at 05:47 and iftar is at 17:05. In Manchester suhoor ends at 05:43, and in Edinburgh at 05:47. By 8 March, the last expected day, London's suhoor ends at 04:50, 57 minutes earlier. This guide gives the times for 12 UK cities, explains what "suhoor ends" means on our pages, and why we publish no separate "Imsak" time.
These are calculated times for the expected dates of Ramadan on the Umm al-Qura calendar. UK mosques may begin Ramadan a day later after moon sighting (see when does Ramadan 2027 start in the UK). This is not a religious ruling. For the time you stop eating, follow your local mosque's timetable.
Suhoor and iftar times, 12 UK cities#
"Suhoor ends" is Fajr, and iftar is Maghrib. The table gives three dates through Ramadan: the first expected day, the middle, and the last day. London and Ilford show the London Unified Prayer Timetable from 1 January 2027; the other cities use our calculated times.

Suhoor ends about 57 minutes earlier in London over the month, while iftar moves later by 50 minutes. That is why the fast grows through Ramadan; our guide to Ramadan 2027 fasting hours shows the length of each fast.
What the Qur'an and hadith say about suhoor#
The end of suhoor. The Qur'an says: "And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]" (2:187, Saheeh International).
The blessing of suhoor. Anas ibn Malik reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Take Suhur as there is a blessing in it" (Sahih al-Bukhari 1923).
Why we publish no "Imsak" time#
Many apps and timetables show an "Imsak" time about 10 minutes before Fajr, as a margin for stopping early. The calculation library PrayTimes, which many apps are built on, includes a default of 10 minutes. AllPrayerTime.uk does not publish one: on our pages, Fajr is the suhoor-ending time, and during Ramadan we label it "Fajr / Suhoor ends". Scholars differ on imsak, and we take no side:
SeekersGuidance, in a Hanafi answer by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch, says imsak is recommended in other schools, such as the Maliki school, that this recommendation "does not exist in the Hanafi school", and that the fast is valid despite eating until the time of Fajr.
IslamQA, quoting Shaykh Ibn Uthaymin in answer to a question about a timetable's imsak, says observing it is "a kind of bid'ah (innovation) which has no basis in the Sunnah". This is a view from outside the UK, and we give it as one view among those above.
Darul Ifta Birmingham, answering a question on 15° and 18° timetables in the UK, says it is "more preferable and an act of precaution to act upon the 18 degrees timetable for finishing the Sehri".
Our default calculation uses the 18° twilight angle for Fajr (London and Ilford follow the London Unified Prayer Timetable from 1 January 2027), so the precaution described by Darul Ifta Birmingham is already in our calculated times. A further 10 minutes would double the margin, so we show none. If you personally stop earlier, that is your choice, and your mosque can advise.
How much earlier is 18° than 15°?#
UK timetables use different twilight angles for Fajr, and 15° and 18° are the two most discussed (Darul Ifta Birmingham addresses both in the answer above). Our engine can work out both for the same day. In the ten cities where our published Fajr is the calculated 18° time, it is between 16 and 21 minutes earlier than the 15° time on the two dates below. For example, in Edinburgh on 8 February our Fajr is 05:47 against 06:08 at 15°, and in Manchester it is 05:43 against 06:03.
City | 8 Feb: our Fajr (18°) | 8 Feb: 15° Fajr | Difference | 23 Feb: our Fajr (18°) | 23 Feb: 15° Fajr | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Manchester | 05:43 | 06:03 | 20 min | 05:15 | 05:35 | 20 min |
Bradford | 05:41 | 06:01 | 20 min | 05:13 † | 05:33 | 20 min |
Coventry | 05:40 | 06:00 | 20 min | 05:13 | 05:32 | 19 min |
Luton | 05:35 | 05:55 | 20 min | 05:09 | 05:28 | 19 min |
Nottingham | 05:39 | 05:58 | 19 min | 05:11 | 05:31 | 20 min |
Liverpool | 05:46 | 06:06 | 20 min | 05:18 | 05:38 | 20 min |
Bolton | 05:44 | 06:04 | 20 min | 05:15 | 05:36 | 21 min |
Edinburgh | 05:47 | 06:08 | 21 min | 05:21 † | 05:37 | 16 min |
Bristol | 05:44 | 06:03 | 19 min | 05:18 | 05:37 | 19 min |
Oldham | 05:42 | 06:03 | 21 min | 05:14 | 05:34 | 20 min |
A dagger (†) marks a day on which the 18° time is replaced by our one-seventh-of-the-night limit, as explained on the methodology page. London and Ilford are not in this table because from 1 January 2027 they use the London Unified Prayer Timetable, whose Fajr is not worked out from an angle we apply. Neither the 15° nor the 18° approach is a mistake: the difference is a choice of method, as explained in our guide to why UK prayer times differ.
How to use these times#
Check which Fajr your mosque follows. Its printed Ramadan timetable is what to follow.
For any date and city, open the city page: from 7 February to 10 March 2027 it shows "Fajr / Suhoor ends" and "Maghrib / Iftar". See the Ramadan 2027 timetables.
Iftar is the Maghrib time, which includes a 3-minute margin after sunset, and the city page shows the sunset time too.
Frequently asked questions#
What time is sehri in London on 8 February 2027?#
Suhoor ends at 05:47 and iftar is at 17:05, on the expected first day of Ramadan.
What is the difference between suhoor, sehri and imsak?#
Suhoor (the Arabic word) and sehri (the word common among South Asian communities) both mean the pre-dawn meal. Imsak is a time some timetables place before Fajr. We publish Fajr as the time suhoor ends, and no separate imsak.
Do I have to stop eating before Fajr?#
Scholars differ, as shown above. We publish Fajr; follow your mosque's guidance.
Why is my mosque's sehri time earlier than yours?#
It may use a different angle, or add a margin. See the table of 15° and 18° times above.
Will these times change if Ramadan starts a day later?#
The dates move by a day, so a given date's times belong to a different fasting day, but the calculation for each date does not change.
Is this a fatwa?#
No. It explains how the times are worked out. Ask a scholar for a ruling.
