Eid al-Fitr 2027 is expected on Tuesday 9 March 2027 on the Umm al-Qura calendar, the 1st of Shawwal 1448. In the UK it may be a day later, Wednesday 10 March 2027, if Ramadan completes 30 fasts or if your mosque began Ramadan a day later. On the morning of Tuesday 9 March 2027 the sun rises in London at 06:25 and Dhuhr is at 12:16; in Edinburgh the sun rises at 06:44. This guide gives the expected dates, how the UK decides the date, the sunrise and Dhuhr times that frame the Eid prayer window for 12 cities, and the sunnahs and duties linked to Eid morning.

The dates are expected dates, and the exact time of the Eid prayer is set by each mosque. This is not a religious ruling. Follow your mosque's announcement for the day and the time of Eid prayer. AllPrayerTime.uk does not publish Eid prayer times.

Eid al-Fitr 2027: the possible dates#

  • Tuesday 9 March 2027: Eid al-Fitr, the 1st of Shawwal 1448 on the Umm al-Qura calendar. This follows 29 days of fasting from Monday 8 February.

  • Wednesday 10 March 2027: Eid, if Ramadan completes 30 fasts, which makes Tuesday 9 March 2027 the 30th fast.

  • If your mosque began Ramadan on Tuesday 9 February, each of these dates is one day later.

The 29th fast from an 8 February start is Monday 8 March 2027, and that evening is when the new moon is looked for. See when does Ramadan 2027 start in the UK and Islamic dates in 2027 for how the date is set.

How the UK decides the date of Eid#

Many UK mosques begin each month by looking for the new moon on the evening of the 29th. Wifaqul Ulama, which publishes moon-sighting announcements for Britain, does this every month: its current page, for example, urges Muslims in Britain to try to sight the moon on the evening of Monday 9 November 2026, which it identifies as the 29th of Jumada al-Ula 1448. The new month, and so Eid, then begins on the next day if the moon is accepted, and otherwise the month completes 30 days. Other mosques follow other approaches, and we do not rank them: ask your mosque which one it follows.

The Eid prayer window: sunrise and Dhuhr#

The Eid prayer is prayed in the morning, not at a fixed time like the five daily prayers. A Q&A on IslamQA (a non-UK source about a question in a village in India, so it is not UK guidance) summarises the views of the schools on its time: for the Maliki, Hanafi and Hanbali schools it begins when the sun has risen to "the height of a spear", the Shafi'i school says it lasts from sunrise, and all agree it ends when the sun reaches the meridian, close to the time of Dhuhr. So the window lies between sunrise (or shortly after) and Dhuhr. The table gives those two reference points for each city on both possible mornings.

Between sunrise and Dhuhr there are between 5h 44m and 5h 51m on 9 March across these cities. Mosques may hold the Eid prayer more than once, at times that suit their congregation, so the time for your mosque will be announced locally. Sunrise on our pages is the astronomical sunrise, and Dhuhr includes a 5-minute margin after solar midday. London and Ilford use the London Unified Prayer Timetable's published values.

What is linked to Eid morning#

  • Zakat al-Fitr before the prayer. Ibn Umar reported that the Prophet ﷺ enjoined Zakat-ul-Fitr "and he ordered that it be paid before the people went out to offer the `Id prayer" (Sahih al-Bukhari 1503). Charities and mosques announce the amount each year.

  • Eating dates. Anas ibn Malik reported that the Prophet ﷺ "never proceeded (for the prayer) on the Day of `Id-ul-Fitr unless he had eaten some dates" (Sahih al-Bukhari 953).

  • Completing the month and giving thanks. The Qur'an says Allah wants you "to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you" (2:185, Saheeh International).

After Eid: the clocks#

The clocks go forward on 28 March 2027, almost three weeks after Eid, so Eid al-Fitr 2027 falls on GMT and every time above is a GMT clock time. See do prayer times change when the clocks change.
